Scope creep #0283

Project risks • project risk margin

At the beginning of a project, it is agreed upon which services and tasks are to be included. If other wishes or suggestions are incorporated during the course of the project, this can initially generate enthusiasm in the team. However, the effort and expense involved will then no longer fit into the formerly agreed framework. If there is additional work it is necessary to change the financial scope subsequently.

Countermeasures

Therefore, the team has to be attentive to when well-intentioned suggestions or modification proposals from the customer cause additional work and exceed the scope. Then the team has to communicate clearly that the project is no longer "within scope". Otherwise, additional work cannot be done. Reference should be made to the initial agreement.
