In the middle of the Ruhr Valley lies the city of Gelsenkirchen. They say that the openness and directness of people here come from the grafter past when coal was still mined and steel smelted. With about 5 million inhabitants, the Ruhr region is one of the most populous and economically powerful urban areas in Europe. Not only is high-class soccer played here, but you can also find the highest concentration of health care facilities, cultural facilities such as museums and theaters, and most important for us: a wealth of first class universities with a tradition in design and technology.
The Science Park is on the site of the former "Gusstahlwerk" which means a plant for casting steel. A relic from the old days is still hanging in the WILDDESIGN office – the former factory clock.
