For more than 20 years, the Hammann company has been using its comprex technology to clean fluid-carrying pipe systems - and now they are transferring this technology to the medical sector with the comprex Medical division. WILDDESIGN has accompanied their journey from the idea to the prototype design of Endoprime and also provided new impulses. Thus, the design of a small detail has turned into a comprehensive consideration of the "big picture".
The reprocessing of flexible endoscopes involves several obstacles. Pre-cleaning is required by law and often performed manually by medical staff. This costs a lot of time and effort. In addition, the manual process cannot be validated – and to err is human. At this point, comprex Medical comes into play.
comprex stands for compress and expand. The patented impulse rinsing process cleans pipes purely mechanical. Pulses of compressed air flush small quantities of water through the pipes, in this way loosening deposits and contamination without the use of chemical substances. This makes the process validatable and more efficient than manual cleaning. Waste and water consumption of comprex is reduced to a minimum due to a low use of cleaners as well as the saving of disposable products. This makes the process sustainable and future-oriented.
Our decision to apply the comprex process outside the well-known areas of industrial and municipal cleaning of pipeline systems was exactly the right impetus at the right time - with exactly the right partner for us - WILDDESIGN.
From the idea to design individual components of the pre-cleaning system, the comprex Medical brand and the Endoprime system were born. A solution for endoscope cleaning that is forward-looking in all areas, formally coherent, suitable for the user and technically feasible. For an appropriate use of the most important material we have - water.

A first functional prototype already existed when Hammann approached WILDDESIGN in mid-2020. Our initial task was to design an adapter for the endoscope connections. We noticed quickly that focusing only on a single detail was not enough. The first version of Endoprime can best be described as a simple metal box that contained all of the main functions. However, for an optimal use by the customer, some adjustments had to be made to optimize handling. As a newcomer to the medical industry, Hammann immediately competes with large companies that also offer processes for pre- and final cleaning of endoscopes. In close cooperation and consultation with the management of comprex Medical, a holistic approach has thus been developed. It meets the high demands placed on the device and puts previous market offerings in the shade.
This efficient and sustainable process offers a new standard of hygiene through validatable results, which is why the design should also reflect the quality of the comprex process.
In contrast to Hammann's previous municipal offerings and operation by their specialist staff, users handle Endoprime independently. Therefore, requirements for a user-friendly interface were high and an easy integration into the daily routine of clinics and practices essential. Even though the Covid pandemic makes test phases in hospitals difficult, interviews and studies on usability and user experience could still take place. These findings were evaluated and WILDDESIGN used this data to create a user-friendly and contemporary design prototype.
Over the course of the development process, during a year and a half the metal box turned into a compact, streamlined system that can be easily integrated into the existing hospital infrastructure. A barcode scanner for the registration of users and endoscopes, as well as an interface with a touchscreen, facilitate operation. For the cleaning process, Endoprime only requires water, air and power connections. The endoscope can be connected on both sides via a central distributor on the front. The illuminated ring around the connection provides feedback on the status of the device during use. The adapters are also designed to be user-friendly: Color coding makes it easy to assign the connectors. They can be attached to a key ring for storage or cleaning. The mark on the drain adapter indicates the minimum required water level in the basin which ensures an efficient water consumption.
The close and motivating cooperation between the development teams of WILDDESIGN and Hammann has not only resulted in an inspiring product, but also in a corporate design with high identification and recognition values. We are pleased to support comprex Medical comprehensively in all design areas on the way to the implementation of their idea.
The next step for Endoprime is the series transfer and market launch, which is to be realized with suitable partners.
If you are interested in a cooperation with comprex Medical, we will be happy to establish the necessary contacts.
