EXCERPT:

China’s Unique Street Level Recycling System

1) Manufacturer makes bottled beverage. 2) Consumer buys the beverage then drinks and throws away. 3) A street recycler picks the bottle up, takes it to a middle man who then sells the bottles back to the manufacturer.

That’s How it’s Been Seen

For Chinese people, environmental concerns are closely linked with how they affect the individual person and their family. The cosmopolitan environment in Shanghai typically cultivates a civilian population who are very focused on improving personal standards of living. For Chinese, it is about what you can smell, see and feel directly.

That’s How it Will Be

The future of environment in China is brighter than before. Communities are forming all over the country in the form of NGO’s and student run organizations that aim to educate the public on how to protect the environment whilst encouraging them to expose actions that cause environmental damage.

Interesting Fact 1

87% of Chinese are willing to give 5% of their income if it were to be used for environmental protection techniques.

Interesting Fact 2

China is the world’s leading renewable-energy producer. According to a 2008 report by the Climate Group its investment in renewable energy (~12 billion USD in 2007) is just behind that of the world leader, Germany.
