By Markus, 05. December 2015

Munich, we’re coming!

Just in time for WILDDESIGN’s 25th anniversary, we have given ourselves a gift: a new office in the booming design center of Munich. From the quarter 4 of 2015, in the southern district of Obersendling, we will begin to design together with our longstanding partner BYTEC Medizintechnik. There are still only a few half empty rooms in our new office location on Munich’s Machtlfinger Str.. Within the next 12 months we will set up what we call Medical Innovation Hub Munich, a space for designing and working as well as a breeding ground for new products for medical and laboratory technology, nursing, ambient assisted living, telemedicine, wellness, nutrition, and healthy living.

The new premises is located on 30 Machtlfinger Str.

Here, truly innovative medical products are created.

Usable. Aesthetically pleasing. Technologically superior. Safe. In order to bring together the necessary interdisciplinary skills to make this innovation possible, WILDDESIGN and BYTEC are joining forces. BYTEC Medizintechnik has been a source of expertise for design competence, quality management, CE and FDA knowledge, as well as manufacturing acc. to DIN EN 13485. Since 1990 WILDDESIGN has stood for trend and market oriented design, systematic processes, and usability engineering making for more than 45 years of combined design experience.

Why Munich?

The medical tech industry in Germany is focused in various clusters in the south, Mannheim, Tübingen, Tuttlingen, Erlangen, Munich, Austria, Zürich, Basel… cities and countries that have grown from quaint, localized communities to large enterprises. With increasing global competition (particularly with an eye on China), European medical technology companies are forced to develop faster and produce more cost effective medical products for the market, with worldwide approval. The vast majority of these companies are dependent upon OEM support because it is beyond their capacity to build and maintain such services. Here, proximity plays an important role for customers.

Though other options were considered, Munich was the final decision. For several years, the German design scene has been focused here, as well as the focus of many international agencies. In Munich there are numerous medical research institutions and excellent training facilities available.

What added value can WILDDESIGN offer?

Our customers need an external design partner in the area, who can handle the complexity of medical products developed worldwide, and a purposeful and involved client partner relationship. Time-to-Market and Design-to-Cost are two repeatedly voiced demands that must be addressed. With ever increasing regulatory requirements of the CE and FDA, the external design partners must be competent in all areas of design, including hardware and software development, and market conforming, attractive design with high functionality and usability. There is increase in the user centered design strategy, and the customer directly benefits from the inclusion of all disciplines.

In WILDDESIGN we are constantly looking for new ways to meet customer needs, grow closer to the customer, and interact more, but also to quickly move into idea generation to develop better, superior solutions. The design office in Munich is the ideal complement to our experienced medical team in Gelsenkirchen – your Medical Innovation Hub.

What’s the plan?

By the end of 2015, we have set up office and first projects have begun. At the 2015 Medica / Compamed Fair in Dusseldorf (November 16-19.), we presented our Munich office for the first time: in addition to our usual Compamed stand in Hall 8a / H13, we were available at the joint Bavarian stand of Medtec & Pharma (Hall 3 / E92 ) to meet visitors.

The team in Munich will begin to really grow in 2016, because it takes time and patience to assemble the right personalities and competencies. However, this isn’t our first time: 10 years ago we developed our Shanghai office from scratch and wrote a still continuing success story. The close connection we have to our team in Shanghai and Gelsenkirchen is also a nod of encouragement towards our interdisciplinary and multicultural team in Munich.

We look forward to welcoming you soon in Munich. Learn about WILDDESIGN’s approach to Medical Design.
