Exhibition design at Chinaplas for second straight year

Demag Plastic Group

China is home to thousands of large exhibitions every year, but Chinaplas, Asia’s largest plastic and rubber trade fair, is one of the most important. This year’s Chinaplas began on May 20th in Guangzhou, China and ran for 3 days. This is the second year in a row WILDDESIGN assisted Demag Plastic Group and was responsible for their exhibition booth as well as marketing and advertising materials. From design to execution and implementation at the trade fair, WILDDESIGN is proud to have helped Demag again this year.

The main challenge WILDDESIGN faced was to make Demag stand out from their competitors in a crowded and often homogenous field. The two-floor booth featured actual working version’s of the company’s signature plastic injection molding machines, which helped raise Demag’s profile as they make more of a push into the Chinese market. The booth included product displays and experts discussing the company’s machinery, its specifications and more.

This year we also took the additional step of creating advertising materials, which played an important role in the Demag exhibition booth and serve to spread their brand message at the event. We upped the ante this year, creating advertising materials with a much more human and personal touch, contrasting with traditional heavy industry advertising that tends to feature pictures of machinery and their attendant specifications.

Other important developments at this year’s Chinaplas included the growing prominence of machines that require little to no human input after the construction stage.

Sustainability was also on everyone’s lips, as manufacturers demonstrated new materials and processes that dramatically reduce environmental damage and waste, as well as machines that virtually eliminate the toxic emissions that are an unfortunate byproduct of many types of plastics production. Our client BASF, for instance, showed off a variety of brand new sustainable and reusable materials at Chinaplas that will likely play a role in moving the product design industry forward. More about it we will write next month.

Exhibitions like Chinaplas are a good place for product designers to see the newest trends and developments is the chemical and plastics industry. Designers need to be aware of what’s going on in the industry and what new tools and technologies there are to be utilized. As the old adage goes, a designer is only as good as their latest design!
